State of Florida converged on the Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Orange

The purpose of this gathering was to support the family
of Vietnam Vet and PGR member, Dan Sullivan. They were also
there to honor him as he was laid to rest. Dan Sullivan was a particularly well-liked man in his community as evidenced by the turnout of riders. He was a serious rider and never passed up a chance to saddle up. |

Riders arrived in ones and two. Many of Dan’s friends in the Gold
Wing Club arrived, in mass. An impressive array of motorcycles. A flag line was set at the entrance to the funeral home. As family and friends arrived they marveled at the site of so many flags and riders. All were invited inside the chapel for the service. Many of the Gold Wing riders did, in fact, go inside for the services of their friend. |

Before the services were concluded the flag line had been re-deployed
to the side of the road way to the burial site. After the hearse
passed the riders on the flag line again re-deployed to flank both
sides of the walkway to the burial shelter. After the casket was carried passed them by the U.S. Army pall bearers they re-deployed for a final time to stand facing the burial shelter. Dan Sullivan was afforded full military honors. A flag ceremony was performed and the flag was presented to the family. |

An excellent rendering of Taps, by the U.S. Army Color Guard concluded
the rite of burial for this veteran. As the riders returned to their bikes some noted how this ceremony had touched them. It felt like they were taking a bit of Dan Sullivan with them as they departed. And that is how it should be. Rest in peace, Dan. Your service to your Country, your Community and loved ones is complete. Godspeed and well done. |
